Brief Bio
Roy Cecil is a specialist in Big Data and Database technologies at IBM Portugal based in Lisbon. He has 17 years of industry experience in various capacities including software development, software performance engineering and solutions architecture. At IBM he has contributed to DB2 pureScale in the areas of high availability, scalability and engineered systems. He has also contributed to several industry leading benchmarks including the world’s first 100 TB Spark-SQL TPC-DS benchmarks.

Abstract
This presentation aims to understand the background to Big Data problems, the various approaches that have evolved to address these problems and the current challenges we have. It will be also covered what IBM is doing in this space to address the market needs.
