Brief Bio
Dr. Markus Helfert is Director of the Business Informatics Group at Dublin City University, and a Senior Lecturer in Information Systems at the School of Computing, Dublin City University (Ireland). He is senior academic at Lero - The Irish Software Research Centre. He is a research affiliate at The Open Government Institute at Zeppelin University in Germany. His research interests include Information Management, Innovation, Cloud Computing, Service Science, Enterprise Architecture and Open Data and Smart Cities. Currently he advises several small and medium sized Enter prise in rela ion to Innovation and IT Management. Markus Helfert has authored more than 200+ academic articles, journal and book contributions and has presented his work at international conferences. He is member of international programme committees and reviewer and associate editor of several IS journals. Dr. Helfert has received national and international grants from agencies such as European Union (FP7; H2020), Science Foundation Ireland and Enterprise Ireland. Prior to his appointment at Dublin City University, he held a research position at the Institute of Information Management at the University of St. Gallen. Dr. Helfert holds a PhD from the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland), an MSc from the University of Mannheim (Germany) and a BSc from Napier University in Scotland (UK). ... More >>

Dr. Víctor Méndez Muñoz has a main background in big data management and distributed systems. He participated in scientific international projects in physics and bioinformatics like AGATA, LHCb, ENRM and EISCAT, collaborating with several more. Currently, he is Head of Software Development at Mind the Byte, a bioinformatics company specializing in computational drug discovery using a pay-per-use SaaS platform (Software as a Service). He also works in the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) as a part time professor. Dr. Donald F. Ferguson is vice president and chief technology officer for Dell’s Software Group. Dell named Don a Senior Fellow in January 2013 Don is the only person to have been an IBM Fellow, Microsoft Technical Fellow and Dell Senior Fellow. Don leads the architecture, implementation design, technical strategy and innovation for Dell Software Group products and solutions. Don also works with colleagues across Dell to help ensure integration and innovation for software solutions spanning all of Dell’s businesses. Brief Bio
Paulo Novais is an Associate Professor with Habilitation of Computer Science at the Department of Informatics, in the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (Portugal) and a researcher at the ALGORITMI Centre in which he is the coordinator of the research group ISlab - Synthetic Intelligence, and the coordinator of the research line in “Ambient intelligence for well-being and Health Applications”.
He is the director of the PhD Program in Informatics and co-founder and Deputy Director of the Master in Law and Informatics at the University of Minho.
He started
his career developing scientific research in the field of Intelligent Systems/Artificial Intelligence (AI), namely in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Machine Learning and Multi-Agent Systems.
His interest, in the last years, was absorbed by the different, yet closely related, concepts of Ambient Intelligence, Ambient Assisted Living, Intelligent Environments, Behavioural Analysis, Conflict Resolution and the incorporation of AI methods and techniques in these fields.
His main research aim is to make systems a little more smart, intelligent and also reliable.
He has led and participated in several research projects sponsored by Portuguese and European public and private Institutions and has supervised several PhD and MSc students. He is the co-author of over 250 book chapters, journal papers, conference and workshop papers and books.
He is the president of APPIA (the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence) for 2016/2017, Portuguese representative at the IFIP - TC 12 - Artificial Intelligence chair of the Working Group on Intelligent Agent (WG12.3), and member of the executive committee of the IBERAMIA (IberoAmerican Society of Artificial Intelligence).
During the last years he has served as an expert/reviewer of several institutions such as EU Commission and FCT (Portuguese agency that supports science, technology and innovation).
