Francisco Vilar Brasileiro
Universidade Federal de Campina Grande

Brief Bio
Francisco Vilar Brasileiro (male) has joined the Computing and Systems Department of UFCG in 1989, where now he is a Full Professor. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (UK). Since 2002 he has been actively involved in grid and cloud computing projects, concerning both the development of distributed computing infrastructures (DCIs), as well as the use of these DCIs to support e-Science. Prof. Brasileiro has more than 20 years of experience in coordination of RD&I projects, including projects such as EUBrazilCloudConnect and JiT Clouds, involving large consortiums. He has also been actively involved in a number of EC co-funded projects, such as EELA, EELA-2, GISELA, DEGISCO and SOCIENTIZE. Prof. Brasileiro has provided consultancy in cloud computing for the elaboration of the “TI Maior” programme of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and is currently a member of the Brazilian Inter-ministry Committee for Cloud Computing. He is author/co-author of more than 170 scientific papers published on journals and conference proceedings.

Federation of cloud providers has been a research topic with a high impact for a long time. Despite the advances in the federation of identity and authorisation management, the synchronization of catalogues and the resource workload among clouds, there are still many interesting topics yet to be appropriately covered, such as federated networking, resource migration, scheduling policies and privacy restrictions. Moreover, the increased popularity of containers for application delivery and execution isolation opens up new scenarios.
