Ioannis Konstantinou
National Technical University of Athens
Greece

Brief Bio
Dr. Ioannis Konstantinou is a senior researcher at the Computing Systems Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science of the University of Thessaly where he regularly teaches Operating Systems, Advanced Databases and Programming courses. Dr. Konstantinou received his Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from NTUA in 2004, his M.Sc. in Techno-Economic Systems from NTUA in 2007 and his PhD from NTUA in 2011. His research interests lie in the field of large scale distributed data management systems (Cloud Computing and big-data technologies). He has co-authored more than 40 papers in top-tier peer-reviewed conferences and journals in the Database (i.e., SIGMOD, ICDE, IEEE BigData) and Systems (i.e, ACM SoCC, CCGRID, IEEE TPDS, etc.) domains with more than 690 citations (h-index 13). He has served in the program committee of more that 18 prestigious conferences (IEEE/ACM CCgrid, ACM CIKM, CLOSER, etc.) and he has been external reviewer for more than 20 journals (i.e., ACM Comp. Surveys, IEEE TPDS, TKDE, Trans. On Cloud Computing, Trans. On Services Computing, Elsevier FGCS, etc.). He has worked in the proposal preparation, the technical coordination, the design and the development of numerous EU and GR funded research projects (E2Data, SELIS, CELAR, ARCOMEM, Modissense, CLARIN-El, StratusLab etc.). Currently, he is the technical leader of SELIS, a 3-year research project with a budget of more than 18M establishing a strong consortium of more than 40 European logistics stakeholders and ICT providers.

SCOPE

The objective of the workshop is to provide a forum to discuss ongoing research activities on the hybrid cloud model with special focus on the multicloud approach and the business opportunities it brings. Advantages of the multicloud model range from increase of flexibility to reduction of reliance on a single cloud vendor, which in turn brings concrete benefits such as cost effectiveness, service continuity, disaster mitigation, etc. Countersides are the need of plans for data governance and compliance following the recent GDPR directive, higher costs for the management of the cloud sprawl, increase of application delivery’s complexity, deployment and management and more. This workshop encourages submissions that propose experimental solutions, case studies, deployed systems and best practices
